Marksmanship
Program Corps provides cadets with
training in safe firearms training a marksmanship. The marksmanship
program is conducted on two levels. A Junior Marksmanship Program
is provided for recruits and cadets in grades 6, 7, and 8 as a
preliminary level of basic training. Recruits and cadets who
successfully complete the Junior Marksmanship Program are eligible to
participate in the Senior Marksmanship Program. The Senior
Marksmanship Program is open to cadets in grades 9 through 12 and
cadets in grades 6, 7, and 8 who have successfully completed the Junior
Marksmanship Program.
Training: All
marksmanship training is conducted by National Rifle Association
certified instructors. Cadets and recruits are first introduced to safe
handling practices and range practices. Once cadets and recruits have
demonstrated safety and range proficiency, have received basic
marksmanship training and practice and successfully completed the Junior
Marksmanship Program they become eligible to participate in the Senior
Marksmanship Program.
Competition:
Participants in the Junior Marksmanship Program compete individually
while developing their competitive marksmanship skills. Cadets in the
Junior Marksmanship Program qualify for National Rifle Association
achievement awards. The participants in the Senior Marksmanship program
compete in the three position marksmanship competition sponsored by the
Civilian Marksmanship Program and National Rifle Association Junior
Rifle Competition. Cadets compete at the senior level as both
individuals and members of a team.
