Cadet Knowledge Bank: Cadet Leadership
Company Commander
Responsible to the Battalion Commander for:
01. The training, discipline, and appearance of the cadets in the
Company.
02. Provide a flag detail on designated weeks.
03. Recommend job assignments or relief of job assignments.
04. Recommend promotions and demotions.
05. Reporting disciplinary problems to the Battalion Commander, without
delay.
06. Thoroughly familiar with appropriate drill regulations.
07. Recommends merits and demerits.
08. Make weekly inspections of cadets in rank, assisted by other Company
Officers.
09. Correct uniform violations when observed.
10. That subordinate Officers and NCO's are thoroughly familiar with
appropriate drill regulations.
11. Know the status of each cadet in the Company.
Company Executive Officer
Responsible to the Company Commander for:
01. Assume the responsibility of the Company Commander in his/her
absence.
02. Supervise Company Administration.
03. Insure that Company assignments are kept current.
04. Correct uniform violations when observed.
05. Thoroughly familiar with appropriate drill regulations.
06. Ensure proper selection and training of First Sergeant
07. Ensure proper selection and training of Company GuIdon Bearer.
Company First Sergeant
Responsible to the Company Commander for:
01. Coordination with Platoon Sergeants for proper training and
supervision of flag
detail.
02. Take reports at all Company formations.
03. Observe the flag detail, morning and afternoon, report to SAI or
AAI.
04. Recommend job assignments and relief from job assignments.
05. Recommend promotions and demotions.
06. Conduct of the cadets under your command.
07. Correct uniform violation when observed.
08. Accomplish those things directed by Army Instructors, Company
Commander and Executive
Officer.
09. Recommend merits and demerits.
10. Thoroughly familiar with drill regulations.
11. Ensure that all JROTC areas are maintained in a good state of
police.
Platoon Leaders
Responsible to the Company Commander for:
01. Thoroughly familiar with drill regulations.
02. Discipline and appearance of assigned cadets.
03. Properly train assigned cadets in all phases of individual, squad,
and platoon drill.
04. Provide a flag detail on assigned days.
05. Recommend job assignments and relief from job assignments.
06. Recommend promotions and demotions.
07. Recommend merits and demerits.
08. Correct uniform violations when observed.
Platoon Sergeants
Responsible to the Platoon Leader for:
01. Assign cadets to flag detail.
02. Observe cadet during flag detail, report to the Platoon Leader.
03. Conduct the Platoon when in direct command.
04. Ensure cadets are properly trained.
05. Thoroughly familiar with drill regulations.
06. Recommend job assignments and relief from job assignments.
07. Recommend promotions and demotions.
08. Recommend merits and demerits.
Squad Leaders
Responsible to the Platoon Sergeant for:
01. Discipline and appearance of Squad members.
02. Ensure cadets are properly trained.
03. Thoroughly familiar with drill regulations.
04. Ensure Squad members are properly trained to perform flag detail.
05. Know the name and number of your assigned Squad members at all
times.
06. Make accurate reports of absentees at platoon and company formation.
07. Recommend promotions and demotions.
08. Make a weekly inspection of all Squad members.
Cadets
Responsible to Officers and NCO's for:
01. To live up to the high standards of integrity, conduct, loyalty, and
personal
appearance
that's expected.
02. Conduct yourself in a manner at all times that will reflect nothing
but the highest praise on this JROTC Battalion and School.
03. Obey all orders in a willing cooperative manner.
04. Maintain and wear the entire cadet uniform immaculately when
required.
05. Properly safeguard and care for all equipment and material for which
you are responsible.
06. Be on time for official formations requiring your presence.
07. Thoroughly familiar with the contents of drill regulations.
08. Be prepared to assume the duties of the Squad Leader in his/her
absence.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF CADET LEADERS
01. Be able to give commands properly and insist that they be executed
with snap and precision.
02. Be courteous, it's the mark of an officer. Courtesy should extend
not only to your superiors but to subordinates as well.
03. Be responsible for the effective training, discipline, morale,
espirit de corps, appearance, and performance of your company.
04. Present an example of proper military bearing and appearance at all
times. You will find that it lends a sense of urgency, dignity, and
authority to your commands and directives. Set the example for your
company appearance, attitude, conduct, bearing, tact, discipline, and
performance. LEAD BY EXAMPLE.
05. Supervise the training of the cadets to which you are responsible.
Help and instruct them when needed and never ridicule or permit others
to ridicule your subordinate's performance.
06. When given a task to carry out, do so to the best of your ability.
Once a decision is made, carry out your task in a manner which does not
indicate, if any, your dislike for the task. Remember: COMPLAINTS GO UP,
NOT DOWN. If you show your dislike for the task or your peers, seniors
or subordinates, that attitude will be reflected in your subordinates.
07. Always remember that loyalty works two ways: to your superiors and
to your subordinates.
08. Always keep the welfare and interest of your subordinates in mind,
as you are their representative to the next higher command. See that
they are properly represented. Do not hesitate to courteously question
or ask for clarification about items in which you feel are detrimental
to the best interest of your command.
